Get ODP

The Get Outdoors Project

Welcome to ODP!

The Get ODP (Get Outdoors Project) is about doing all the hardcore outdoor activities of this world with other solid believers. The ODP enjoys God’s creation while operating weekend and overnight outdoor trips such as cycling, rock climbing, trail rides, canoeing, hiking, etc. for young adults 18 and up.

We believe that by being outdoors, providing exciting activities, and taking a slight step outside of our comfort zone, we will build relationships with each other and with our God.

ODP – Fall 2024:

ODP-X – Caprock Canyons and Copper Breaks, Dec 12th-15th.

ODP returns to the frigid expanse of the Texas Panhandle for an Xtended three day trip! ODP-X trips are higher investment of time, resources, and intensity; but this should be one for the books if you can make it work.

Caprock Canyon boasts rugged hikes, roaming bison, and roosting bats. Copper Breaks will add additional herds of bison/longhorns and prairie vistas. Expect dramatic scenery and outdoor adventure as we road trip and fellowship together. As always, we’ll also seek opportunities to worship the Lord together and challenge each other physically and spiritually.

Rough plan – we’re looking to leave overnight from Camp on Thursday, arrive at Copper Breaks mid-morning on Friday, explore that park and depart for Caprock Canyons, stay two nights at semi-primitive sites while exploring Caprock, and make our way home late night on Sunday.

Please note – this isn’t a standard ODP trip. The following requirements are to make sure you know what you are getting yourself into before you commit! We’re capping registration at 24 for this one, so lock in your spot!

  • Weather and Clothing – December in North Texas can be brutal. We’ll check in with you as the trip approaches, but you’ll need to source what you need to stay warm on the trail and at night. We’re expecting upper 20s/lower 30s at night and 50s during the day.
  • Sleeping Gear – We’ll still happily help you organize your gear/borrow it from the trailer, but you should take responsibility for making sure you are covered (literally, hah).
  • Timings – Friday is required for this one. The caravan will leave Thursday night. You may also want Monday as a recovery day if you have that luxury.
  • Endurance – Thursday night and the first half of Sunday night will be essentially sleepless. Expect approximately 10mi+ of hiking per day on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
  • Price – we will do our best to keep costs down, but this one will be pricier than a standard ODP. ODP fee will be $75, but expect another $30-$50 in gas money plus roadtrip costs.

Sound like a good time? Register now. Have questions? Message Joel that you are interested in the trip.
